Linda Browne grew up in the middle of a diverse and bustling downtown neighbourhood in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. She decided to become a writer in grade two, after her highly derivative WIZARD OF OZ series was ‘published’ by her school’s in-house press.
She graduated from Concordia University in Montreal with a B.A. in history, and from the University of Toronto with an M.Ed. in Adult Education and a black belt in karate. Along the way, she cobbled together a living from a variety of sources while continuing to write. She’s worked as a bicycle courier, mechanic and bicycle repair instructor, an assistant for a small, independent publisher, a correspondence coordinator for the Ontario government, a book dealer, a church janitor, a karate instructor and a self-employed house cleaner.
In 2023, she set up shop as an indie author and published her debut MG steampunk novel, Shadow Apprentice (Crooked Mile Media, 2024). Her essay, “The Murakami Method: Re-writing Long COVID,” was published in the anthology Bad Artist: Creativity in a Productivity-Obsessed World (Brindle and Glass, 2024). She posts monthly MG and YA book reviews (and the occasional essay) at Bookcase Bizarro, her website blog. She is a member of CANSCAIP, SCBWI and The Alliance of Independent Authors (ALLi).
In addition to writing, Linda is an avid organic container gardener, DIYer, and devoted Linux user. She lives in Toronto with her partner, composer Allison Cameron, and far too many books and plants.
